Training

Unit Training Coordinator: Tom Ivins (utc@vmrsandgate.net.au)

Volunteer Marine Rescue Brisbane is dedicated to ensuring that all members of Duty Crews are as skilled and up-to-date with operational and practical matters as possible in order to provide a professional and effective service to our boating community.

In order to do this, we draw up plans each year for a comprehensive Training Program that will cover all the Training requirements of VMRAQ, and will also ensure that all Crew members have the opportunities they desire to advance through the ranks of our organization.

The full program — for twelve months in advance and including repeat units for newer members, or those who miss the first opportunity — is presented in December each year so that members can plan ahead.

Practical components of Training are undertaken by the Duty Masters of each Crew on their rostered Duty days, and other practical experiences are passed on and observed as each member goes about his or her Regular Crew activities.

At least one First Aid course including CPR is conducted each year to ensure currency of certification. We encourage participation in Cert II and/or IV Training and Assessment Courses through other avenues when appropriate. Annually we aim also to conduct a course in the Marine Radio Operators VHF Certificate of Proficiency.

Information prepared by our UTC is coming soon.
