About Us

VMR BRISBANE Inc. is a volunteer marine rescue squadron attached to Queensland's Emergency Services Department through VMRAQ.

Known locally as VMR SANDGATE we are based at Shorncliffe on the banks of Cabbage Tree Creek and service the northern waters of Moreton Bay.

Our membership also includes several other groups -
the Sandgate Yacht Club,
the Sandgate Canoe Club,
the Lionfish Dive Group,
and, within VMRB, the Fishing and Cruising Group .

Each of these groups has its own section within this site.

We provide several levels of membership which can be seen on our membership Page of this site.

Full Members have access to all Club facilities—our grounds and public access areas of our buildings, toilet and shower facilities, lockup areas for boat trailers while members are at sea in their craft, fee-paid hard-stand storage for boats by application and subject to availability, use of the Club BBQ area, discounted Bar prices and special rates for hire of our function room. They may vote at VMRB Meetings and also receive, as part of their membership, our monthly magazine ‘Boat Talk’.

Associate Members are able to access Club facilities and may choose to receive the magazine for a small annual fee. They don't have voting fights at VMRB meetings.

Country Members live more than 50km from our Shorncliffe Base and accordingly pay reduced fees. Discounts are offered to Pensioners, and those members who serve as Active Crew (Rescue or Auxilliary) are granted a 50% reduction in their fees following each 12 months of regular attendance and service.

Rescue Training modules are offered on a regular basis throughout each year, encouraging progress through the ranks as prescribed by VMRAQ, and ensuring our Crews are highly skilled and current with all their rescue duties.

Our Crews also participate in fundraising through fortnightly Saturday Sausage Sizzles outside Jack Purcell Meats at Virginia, and each Crew in turn host a monthly Social evening on the fourth Friday of every month, serving delicious food, great prizes and lots of fun. Everyone is welcome at these evenings!
